Bring a lawn chair or bring a blanket, but be sure to bring a friend! Enjoy one of the best music series this summer in the Museum's Sculpture Garden. Concerts in the Garden is a casual, outdoor event featuring musicians from across the country. In addition to great music, guests can enjoy food off the grill; local grass-fed hamburgers, vegetable skewers, nightly specials, also root beer floats, beer, and wine available for purchase.
Tickets: Available at the door, $12 per person, Free admission for children twelve and younger. Packets of five tickets are available for $50. As Begonia, Alexa Dirks is bold, brazen with her florid, surprising pop that is tempered with sensitivity and wisdom. Dirks' first solo output with her 2017 debut EP, Lady in Mind, was well-received, being listed on NPR’s 10 Artists You Need To Know in 2017 and “Juniper” reached #1 on the CBC 2 Music Charts. Noisey wrote that, “Begonia has one of Canada’s most extraordinary voices, and thankfully she uses it to obliterate the misery from this world one live performance at a time.” NPR wrote that Begonia is “the place where where synth-pop meets old soul and scrappy meets sexy.” Whether it’s learning to come into her own or processing a brutal heartbreak, Dirks’ intimate lyrics and audacious sound allows for her audience to relate to the messiness of life with an honesty that is refreshing. With Begonia’s debut full length album entitled 'Fear' expected September 13, 2019, Dirks’ leans hard into a sense of arrival. She wrote and co-produced the record with a familiar team: Matt Schellenberg and Matt Petters of Royal Canoe, along with Marcus Paquin, who has previously worked with The National, Arcade Fire and Local Natives.

In the fall of 2017, David Huckfelt left behind the familiar—the comfort of his home in Minneapolis; the camaraderie of his critically acclaimed band, The Pines; the luxuries of heat, hot water, and electricity—and relocated to Isle Royale, America’s most remote and least visited national park in mighty Lake Superior. Six hours by boat off the Michigan coast, Isle Royale is the largest island in the world’s largest freshwater lake, an isolated stretch of wilderness seemingly forgotten by the 20th century (to say nothing of the 21st). There, as an Artist In Residence selected by the National Park Service, Huckfelt spent ten hours a day for two straight weeks writing in solitude, channeling the mysterious and lonesome island’s spirits into his stunning debut solo album, ‘Stranger Angels.’

Little Fevers was born out of MN darlings Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles back in 2014, minutes before the arrival of an actual baby. With a hint of pavement, a sprinkle of stereo lab, a dash of Emily Haines and bit of Violent Femmes, Little Fevers has been performing for the past 4 years, playing tunes from their debut release Field Trip as well as their 7 inch entitled, Singles. The band is currently writing a new album, spending the summer hunkering down in lead singer, Lucy Michelle’s basement and recording at Pearl Studios in NE MPLS.
